Pakistan hoping to connect Iran gas

St Petersburg News.Net Sunday 29th April, 2012

The United States has expressed concern that Pakistan is planning to become a partner with Iran in a gas project.

US administration figures have urged Pakistan to drop plans for the US$2 billion project due to its sanctions against Iran.

The gas pipeline from Iran was first mooted in 1996 when Pakistan agreed to help with the development of the pipeline.

Islamabad has now decided to issue advertisements inviting contractors to express interest in the project.

Once laid, the pipeline will allow high pressure natural gas to travel from the city of Gawadar, a port city on the Arabian Sea in the south-west of Pakistan, toward the Iranian border.
