Dutch filmaker upsets Muslims
St Petersburg News.Net Friday 28th March, 2008
A film by Dutch filmaker, Geert Wilders, one of the Netherlands' most outspoken Islam critics has been posted on the Internet.
The film 'Fitna', made by the controversial parliamentary member is highly critical of the Koran.
Within two hours of the release on Thursday, more than one million Dutch nationals had watched the film, while some 800,000 people abroad had watched the movie.
On the website of Dutch commercial broadcaster RTL4 News, some 1,700 people participated in a poll about 'Fitna'.
66 percent of the participants in the poll approved of the film being released and 65 percent agreed with Wilders' opinion expressed in the movie.
Wilders has defended the decision to post the movie to the Internet by saying the film was directed against radical Islam and what he called the 'Islamization of the Netherlands' and was not intended to be directed against Muslims.
The Dutch government, which was expected to release an official statement, had already formally distanced itself from the film and expressed concern that Dutch people and businesses might be at risk abroad.
Citing freedom of expression, the Dutch government said it would not undertake steps to prohibit the movie unless it was proven Wilders violated Dutch law.
The film is a compilation of Koran verses and old video footage.
The Koran verses are primarily sections which have been interpreted as calling on Muslims to attack and destroy enemies of the faith.
It also shows the attacks on New York's World Trade Center towers on Sep 11, 2001, the London Underground on July 7, 2005 and video footage of Muslim terrorists executing Western hostages.
The film suggests that violent passages from the Koran are directly used by Muslims as legitimisation to commit violence and will ultimately endanger Western democratic and liberal values.

The heart of the matter
Suffering, violence hate and death are committed by people who hate faith, equally as much by those who claim faith. This has always been the case.
It is folly to dismiss faith, it only shows the part of the human journey that he (the critic) has not yet travelled.
But a book alone can be written by anyone with lovely sounding words. A book alone does not constitute a faith. Blind adherence to a book, No thanks.
A divine spirit of love, respect, peace
grows within people, and not of their own effort. Do I see this in those who claim to speak it? perhaps the film has merit....
Search yourself, can you forgive, or does your mouth and heart betray you.....are you honest? or do you justify yourself. Is your work sound, or corrupted, do you serve yourself, and gather riches? or look to the needs of others?...funny thing the human heart isn’t it?

I am a firm believer of freedom of speech. But that does not mean that I agree with everything being said. This movie is made to create fear and hate against the Islam.
At the same time, Religion is also abused by people to spread hate and fear. And what is done by both sides? Creating more distance between people from different religions (or non-religion).
The majority of people in this world only want peace. To have a peaceful world for our children to grow up in.
Peace comes only from people who respect other people’s opinion. And who choose not to listen to people who do want to create fear and hate.
Words can be spoken. But if there are no ears to hear them, then they will pass on.

Are Muslims afraid to speak out against extremists?
Declaring anyone an enemy of Islam, “enemies are those who seek out to destroy and attack the muslim faith” to quote koran learner earlier is incompatible with a lifestyle where we celebrate discussion and question ourselves and each other. Which of us can truely defend the practises of beheadings and amputation of limbs as punishment. Great in the Arabian desert 13 centuries ago. But this kind of behaviour is not acceptable in the 21st century.

Ya know, not everyone in the world wants to be owned or governed or dictated to by the Americans. Some people, outside of the US, actaully knows whats going on and are refusing to be bullied. Oh, I can’t be bothered anymore trying to educate people who leave comments BEFORE educating themselves on what’s really going on. One day you’ll be posting about violence in Canada because the push is coming and I know for a fact NO Canadian is willing to join the USA as one country and when Canadians wake up and realize this is what’s happening, you’ll see how unpassive a good ole cannuck can be.

holy koran speaks about love and understanding
the verse that calling muslim to attack and destroy enemies of the faith is meant that the enemies are those who seek out to destroy and attack the muslim faith and the verse clearly asked the muslim to defend their faith. if you are not a muslim that means that you are not the enemy of islam but a brethen of different faith which Islam speaks of love, respect, peace and understanding. so Islam is Not the religion of hate but of love, peace and understanding. thank you

Film Upsets Muslims
Yes I can see how it would up set a lot of muslims.
However there is nothing in the movie that did’nt happen!!
So perhaps it’s time for the so called silent majority of moderate muslims to pull the pin on these nut case murders and gangsters who call them self MUSLIMS.
How can they just sit on there hands and not help destroy the extremists before the extremists course them to be destroyed.
No other religon would have let it get so far out of hand !!

It's all about interpretation
I must admit that the Bible, just like the Quran, has its violent passages. But it is up to today’s generations to read the verses with a modern mind. I hope this movie gets a discussion going in the muslim world, because my family’s churches in Indonesia are still being burned down regularly. I know that many muslims will not support those people burning down churches, but it would be good if there’d be more muslims speaking up against these acts of violence around the world.

Your news-story covers the essence of the problem. Interpretation is what it’s all about. Personally, I think that problems around religion will continue as long as there are people who seek power by misusing the words that so many people consider words of their faith. This applies to every religion.

"The Koran verses are primarily sections which have been interpreted as calling on Muslims to attack and destroy enemies of the faith."
— Who has interpreted them that way? What is their “peaceful” interpretation? Can you find any Muslim cleric who will say that the quoted verses no longer apply, or that they have a meaning other than their most obvious one?

Movie against Koran
I cannot believe there are people that reading the Holy Koran find violence. That’s impossible because Koran only speak about love.
About movie, we can do also a bad movie about catholic that’s very easy.
It’s very very hard to find a good Catholic, a good Muslim, a good religious man...

Your answer is here.
http://www.americanthinker.com/2005/01/jihad_quran_9123_v_matthew_103.html
The Koran is rife with violence.
Simply not accepting the prophethood of Mohammed is cause for violence.
I do not accept the prophethood claims of this man nor his followers.
I believe him to have been a heretic, liar, mass murderer, pedophile and pirate.
Islam is and always has been a death cult.
Keep drinking the Islamic cool aid.

Religious vampires
Fanaticism or extreminism to the extent of destroying lives and properties at the slightest whim by any religion is absolutely condenmable and unacceptable to all men of goodwill. The era of Moses ( an eye for an eye) and the era of Jihads are gone forever. Religious bigots should stop dragging us back centuries behind.
I do not believe that God has commissioned anybody to kill with reckless abandon, all in the sake of protecting his name or faith. All those who have continued to fan the embers of religious violence, intolerence to criticism and extremism are power seekers. They have used this guise to make themselves extremely rich and powerful. They are vampires. They feed on human blood.

Why is there no call to get along?
It didn’t take long for some idiot to come out and blame America. Perhaps it’s a Bush family conspiracy? Grow up.
Others cannot live for themselves unless they control others. Fact of life. Whether they use the Chrisitian Bible or the Muslim Koran, or whatever. History has shown this since time began.
Communism, Socialism, Democracy, Feudalism, whatever. Those who have to seek power, money, status or fame. Look at our current leaders. Doing it to make the world better? Right. They and their Lords and Ladies profitted on the industries being blamed for pollution, and the common person must pay. Sure.
China pollutes with no regard and the UN and Europe wishes consumers in America to pay for cleanup. Where is the outcry? Starving children all over are dieing while the wealthy classes argue over the profits. Open ones eyes. Follow the money and power. They should be paying, not us.

True religion
cannot wash your dirty laundry. Only spiritual sales imans, priest and monks can promise virgin paradisio to blind followers. Love, peace and compassion is not something that can be purchased, acquired through reading religious books or wishful thinking. It takes a great deal of intelligence to understand what it is. so please not be fooled.

The name Islam means SUBMIT!
The more that Muslims get mad about the movie, Fitna, the more non-muslims want to see the movie! The West has so many cowards who refuse to show this movie in the internet or in other avenues! There is nothing shown in this movie that was not true!! Muslims don’t want the world to see the truth!!! I have nothing but loathing for Islam, Muhammed, Koran, and that stupid muslim god called allah!!

Foreign Islamists target vulnerable Macedonia minorities
28 March 2008 - Radicalisation of Macedonia’s minority Muslim populations has recently come to the attention of Macedonian and Western intelligence agencies
]
Although under-reported, the phenomenon of radicalisation in Macedonia’s minority Muslim populations is being closely observed by Macedonia’s counter-intelligence services and their Western partners. Macedonian authorities have already contributed actionable intelligence in at least one major Western European counter-terrorism operation. Although ethnic Albanians (25 per cent of Macedonia’s population of two million people are Albanian) make up the majority of the Balkan country’s Islamic extremists, smaller Muslim groups, such as the ethnically Macedonian Torbeshi and Gorani populations (approximately 150,000 people), are being disproportionately affected by foreign Islamists.
For these populations, who are historically victims of social, political and economic marginalisation, fundamentalist Islam may be seen as an option if the state cannot address their needs. Furthermore, political manipulation by ethnic Albanian, Turkish and now Macedonian Muslim interests is intensifying as part of national-level power politics for control of Macedonia’s largely Albanian-populated west. The emphasis these parties are placing on Macedonian Muslims' Islamic identity will become increasingly significant in affecting their cultural worldview and social orientation.
When the Ottoman Turks introduced Islam to Macedonia in the 14th century, the region was largely Orthodox Christian, due to previous Byzantine, and later medieval Bulgarian and Serbian rule. By the Balkan Wars of 1912 to 1913, when the Turks were expelled, Macedonians had largely survived five centuries with their Orthodox faith intact. However, some Ottoman Muslims remained; these were Turks, and others who had converted to Islam for the socio-economic benefits and legal equality the Ottomans had denied to non-Muslims.
