Tokyo has said it will provide aid to Myanmar if democratic reforms are advanced.

Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama has pledged more money for Myanmar if the country’s generals agree to the release of detained opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi before next year's election.

Speaking with Burmese Prime Minister Thein Sein in Tokyo on the weekend, Mr. Hatoyama said the Japanese feel it is extremely important that Ms Suu Kyi and other political prisoners are released before the general election in 2010.

The Japanese leader said the recent talks that occurred between the Myanmar military government and the Nobel Peace laureate, had given Japan the encouragement to expand humanitarian and human resources assistance.

Last week, a senior US official went to Myanmar for talks with the country's ruling generals to begin a new policy of engagement between the US and the isolated Southeast Asian nation.

A truly political pawn

Daw Suu has been used by international governments to advance their own interests, but not Myanmar’s interest.
The best way for her is to leave Myanmar immediately so that a home made political solution could be found sooner rather than later.

Democratic Freedom is a basic human right

Why should Daw Suu have to leave her own country to have the democratic, political and personal freedoms most of us take for granted?

It is about time that Military Junta like the despots that run Myanmar were ousted and corrupt cronieisms were destroyed.

Folks would never understand as Maung Maung said it is her choice to stay because she has an interest to become the president of Burma. I do not think she will be a good one to a country that clanship is very strong unless she will rule the country with iron fist.

time for mourning.

we mourned the death of the 11 of our Russian comrades. they were killed by the US military based in japan using scalar weaponry while on ASW patrol duty off Russia’s Pacific Coast. Russia must not stay idle any more and must not let its brave soldiers die in vain. it is time to retaliate by sinking a couple of japanese merchant ships using torpedoes and/or cruise missiles. if japan and south korea are to join the US military to attack our Russian comrades, Russia needs to nuke them all.

Why her?

I don’t understand why every outsider ties her with Myanma Democratic reform. She don’t know what Myanmar is and how Myanmar people think. She knows Myanmar as an outsider does. She never ever thought about the ordinary Myanmar people who suffered deeply by her zero-sum games. Moreover she alone is not the solution for the problems Myanmar is facing now. She herself maybe a problem we are facing now or she maybe some sort of fuel to these problems. One of the biggest problem we are now facing is the millions of so-called politicians with no productivity(no contribution to national output) dreaming GOLDEN DEMOCRACY STATE. The other problem we are facing is the group of introverted generals and their hara-kiri like policy based on their narrow nationalism. They are playing the game called

General Than Shwe just wants the Yen, not your democracy advise.

(R) 2012 DAN QUAYLE Presidential Foreign Policy & Affairs / CIA Reform : Americans have this kind of foreign-aid experience with the Communist Vietnam before, no democracy progression is found but they (the dictatorship) just want your money, they DON’T really want democracy and human rights, religion freedom lectures from you. Of course, Myanmar’s Gen. Than Shwe led military junta wants Japanese Yen to feed their government’s army and develop the military junta’s new capital city of Naypyitaw. However, this is a 2009-2012 black Socialism Obama-Biden administration, Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama won’t hurt to try everything included “money talk” to buy the day-dream democracy from Gen. Than Shwe led Myanmar, in fact, they might to gift Japan some good quality of Gems, Rubies and Jades if Japan feed good to put Yen into the military junta’s mouth; learn from Obama’s ruse to promote his promotional gimmick. The 2013 DAN QUAYLE’s White House’s low-level CIA department will supply M-16 and arms supplies to those Burmese minorities to self-defense themselves just like the Thai women/folks are armed in Southern Thailand to protect their home as well.

Will Myanmar trust the promise?

Construction of a large-scale oil port in the Myanmar city of Kyaukpyu as a facility for the planned China-Myanmar crude oil pipeline project has started, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) as saying in October 8. The project includes a $1.5 billion oil pipeline and $1.04 billion natural gas line. China National Petroleum Corp. will reportedly hold a 50.9 percent stake and manage the project while Myanmar Oil & Gas Enterprise will own the rest.

South Korea’s Daewoo International said on Sep of 2009 that a consortium led by the energy developing company will invest 4 trillion won ($3.2 billion) to develop Myanmar gas fields. Myanmar’s gas industry brought more than US$2 billion in revenue to the country’s military last year, providing its single largest source of income. Most of this money was generated from just two gas fields, Yetagun and Yadana. The latter, situated in southern Myanmar, has since 1992 been developed by a consortium led by Total.

The leading investors are in Myanmar are Thailand - US$ 7.391 billion, UK - US$ 1.86 billion, Singapore, US$ 1.553 billion, China - US$ 1.331 billion and Japan’s investment is US$ 123 million only (as of October, 2006).

The same thing Japan said in 1995. The conditions to resume ODA was ready when Mrs. Suu Kyi was released in 1995. As a matter of fact, Japanese government made a great mistake.Japanese government informed SLORC that ODA will be resumed if Aung San Suu Kyi is released. But Aung San Suu Kyi announced the negative opinion on the resumption of ODA and so the Japanese government recoiled from the promise with Myanmar. This kind of action may break the relation of trust and confidence between government to government. By giving this experience as a good example, Japanese government should decide ODA policy with fearless attitude.

Japan’s Grant Aid to Myanmar 1999 to 2006 total is US$ 1.3 billion according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
