Georgian Airways has asked Russia's government to allow it to resume direct flights to Moscow.
Georgian Airways has asked Russia's government to allow it to resume direct flights to Moscow.

The company is hoping to fly from late December.

The approval for resumption of charter flights between Tbilisi and Moscow came after a long ban on Georgian Airways, which occurred when both countries ceased air traffic agreemments after hostilities in 2008.

Georgian Airways' last flight to Moscow was on August 8, 2008, one day before the five-day military conflict erupted between Russia and Georgia.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev stated earlier this month that he did not object to the resumption of Tbilisi-Moscow flights.

Georgian officials have claimed the request by Georgian Airways is a private matter and has nothing to do with the government.
