BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MEXICO CITY -- Mexico's health ministry reported on Wednesday 829 new COVID-19 deaths, taking its national toll from the pandemic to 49,698.

Meanwhile, 6,139 new cases were reported, bringing the total in the country to 456,100, according to the ministry.

TBILISI -- Georgia confirmed nine new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing its total to 1,206, the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC) has said.

Seven of the nine new cases are imported, while the sources of the other two are still unknown, said the NCDC.

MANILA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 119,460 after the country's Department of Health (DOH) reported 3,561 new daily cases on Thursday.

The DOH said the number of recoveries further rose to 66,837 after 569 more patients have survived the disease, and the death toll increased to 2,150 after adding 28 more deaths.

MOSCOW -- Russia has registered 5,267 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing its total to 871,894, the fourth highest in the world, the country's coronavirus response center said Thursday.

Meanwhile, 116 people died in the same period, pushing its national tally to 14,606, while a total of 7,331 patients have recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 676,357, the center said.

URUMQI -- Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region reported 27 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, all in the regional capital Urumqi, the regional health commission said Thursday in its daily report.

The region also saw 12 new asymptomatic cases in Urumqi Tuesday.
